An overly ambitious new blog series

A few weeks ago, I laid out my plan to reengage the academy after a few years of working outside it.

In short, I would read a few of the leading sociological journal each month, and review them in turn.

In hindsight, this was overly ambitious.

Simply put, in the process of reading August's American Sociological Review throughout October, a couple of things quickly became apparent:

  1. Most of the articles hardly relate to one another, making it virtually impossible to review them together.
  2. Each is very rich in information, and commentary that doesn't treat them separately cannot do them justice, and will not very interesting.

Now aware of these realities, I am going to adjust my plan a bit. I am not going to aim to review volumes, but articles instead. Sometimes I will combine reviews, but a lot of the time, I will comment on articles in isolation.

Reading and posting about one article at a time is a far less ambitious target than so nine at time. As such, this new approach should keep my reading and blogging more regularly.

If all goes well, I should post several reviews a month.
